GiG Software's chief financial officer Phil Richards has left the company, with his departure taking effect on 2 November 2026. Richards announced the news in a LinkedIn post today (2 November). He wrote that October was his last month at the company.
The company is managing a handover in its finance function. GiG said it has put appropriate transition arrangements in place to ensure continuity across finance while the board of directors starts the search for a new CFO. Richards stepped down from his role on Monday but will remain available to provide transitional support as required.
Chief Executive Richard Carter thanked him. According to Carter, Richards made an important contribution to financial reporting, investor relations and corporate development. "On behalf of management and the Board, I would like to thank Phil for his contribution to GiG. He has played an important role in the Company's financial reporting, investor relations and corporate development activity, and we wish him well for the future."
Richards is moving to Chaos, a company that makes software for design and visualization. He will become its CFO from 1 December. In a LinkedIn post he said he will take up a new role outside the gaming industry on 1 December.
He joined GiG in July 2024. Over that period, the company completed an IPO and acquired a majority stake in 888Africa.
The 888Africa deal was announced on 26 August. GiG is buying 80% from an evoke plc subsidiary for €16.4 million (£14.3m), the company said. The offer of €16.4 million for 80% consists of an initial consideration of €6 million (£5.2m) and a deferred consideration of €10.4 million (£9m). That is about $18.4 million at the ECB rate on 2 November.
GiG confirmed the deal had closed in its third-quarter results. At a presentation on 28 October, Carter said the company had completed the acquisition. "We've completed the acquisition of 888AFRICA, strengthened our balance sheet and continued to reshape the core business."
Richards is leaving right after these events, so the 888Africa integration will have to proceed without him. For partners and investors, that means one thing in the coming months: the finance function runs on a transition arrangement until the board appoints a successor.
No name has been announced for the new finance chief yet. The GiG board will make the appointment.
