Sweden's gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, released its Q2 2026 performance report showing steady market expansion. The growth was primarily driven by online gaming and sports betting, even as unlicensed offshore platforms pose ongoing challenges.
Overall market growth: Total GGR for licensed operators reached SEK 7.4 billion ($776 million), marking a 5.1% year-on-year increase compared to Q2 2025.
Online segment surge: Online casinos and sports betting generated SEK 4.96 billion (+7% YoY), accounting for the vast majority of total industry earnings.
Land-based and state operations: State-run lotteries and slots remained flat at SEK 1.43 billion, while restaurant casinos rose nearly 13% to SEK 73 million. State-operated Casino Cosmopol venues generated zero turnover following their 2025 shutdown.
Self-exclusion statistics: Spelpaus.se registered just under 138,000 self-excluded individuals (-0.7% quarter-on-quarter). Technical identity verification requirements for operators were strengthened in April.
Offshore market concerns: Spelinspektionen identified 2,186 active illegal gambling sites, noting that influencers and affiliate networks continue to drive traffic offshore, pushing market channelisation down to 84%.
