Japan could get a second integrated casino resort as the city of Sasebo in Nagasaki Prefecture revives its plans for an IR after the region’s previous proposal was rejected in 2023.
The Sasebo Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the city to restart efforts to secure an integrated resort. Mayor Daisuke Miyajima has also said the city should consider reviving the initiative and examine potential locations beyond the site previously considered near Huis Ten Bosch.
Japan’s IR framework allows for up to three integrated casino resorts.
Japan’s next national application window for integrated resorts will run from May 6 to November 5, 2027.
Sasebo has not yet selected a new casino operator or a final site. For now, the city is considering whether to revive the project and prepare for a potential 2027 bid.
