Heineken and Amazon have launched Pubscription in the UK, a free service that looks like a streaming platform, except that it offers pubs instead of films. Venues are grouped into "genres" by atmosphere. A user picks a pub, invites friends and gets a free pint a week.
The service works in a browser, in an app on Amazon Fire TV and on smart TVs. It was built with Brand Innovation Lab, the creative unit of Amazon Ads. So far it is a pilot that includes a selection of pubs from the Star Pubs \u0026 Bars chain. Heineken owns about 2,400 pubs through Star Pubs.
The promotion has firm limits. It runs until January 6, 2027, or until 15,000 vouchers are redeemed, whichever comes first. We could not find the conditions for getting a voucher, a list of participating pubs or the budget in publicly available materials.
The rationale was provided by Heineken itself. According to its survey of 2,000 Britons, 38% of adults would go out more often if finding the right pub were as easy as finding a new TV series. The company did not disclose the survey methodology, so the figure should be read as a marketing claim.
For the market, this is an example of a brand using Amazon's advertising formats on Fire TV not for commercials, but for its own "content-style" interface that drives offline conversion through vouchers. Which metrics Heineken will treat as success is unknown. Results are expected by January 6, 2027, and if the voucher limit runs out earlier, the timeline will shift.
