A Telegram funnel is a sequence of user touchpoints that takes place entirely inside the messenger: subscribing to a channel or launching a bot, warming up the user through content or conversation, and converting them into a deposit, purchase, or subscription without sending them to an external landing page. This approach can deliver higher CR and LTV than simply moving a traditional web funnel into Telegram because it eliminates user drop-off between platforms.
An ad platform only sees the user up to one point: the ad click. Once the user moves to Telegram, the platform loses visibility into what happens next. It cannot tell whether the person subscribed to a channel, opened a bot, or replied to a DM. That is exactly why the classic “ad + landing page” setup can perform noticeably worse in a messenger than it does in a browser.
The difference is not Telegram itself, but how the funnel is built. When a media buyer tries to replicate a familiar website structure inside Telegram — a form, a button, an offer — users may simply close the chat. When the funnel is designed around the environment itself — warming users up inside a channel, starting a conversation inside a bot, and closing the sale directly in the chat — conversion and retention can be significantly higher, especially for offers in forex and crypto, betting, iGaming, dating, and 18+ content.
Why Telegram Users Behave Differently
Telegram has long evolved beyond simple messaging. Users read feeds, play games, subscribe to services, and make payments without ever leaving the app. For high-value and high-risk verticals, this creates opportunities that are difficult to replicate on the open web.
First, moderation inside your own channel is much more flexible than in ad platforms: a hard-hitting creative that would get banned in Meta or TikTok Ads can live perfectly fine as a Telegram post. Second, Telegram notification open rates can reach 80% or higher, while email open rates are typically several times lower. Third, high-value deals can be closed directly, one-on-one, without a lead form or call center sitting between the ad and the payment. And finally, the subscriber base belongs to you rather than the ad platform: it does not disappear because of a targeting policy change or a disabled pixel.
None of these advantages works automatically. They only become useful through a specific funnel structure, not simply by pushing more traffic. If you are still getting familiar with how media buying and traffic arbitrage work in general — which payment models are used, how the “creative — traffic source — offer” setup works, and why the same campaign can perform differently across platforms — start with our basic guide to traffic arbitrage and media buying and where beginners should start. Below, we’ll break down four funnel structures built specifically around Telegram.
Mini App Demo: A Setup for iGaming and Utility Offers
Telegram Mini Apps are web applications that open directly inside a bot without sending the user to an external browser. For iGaming and utility products, they are one of the strongest engagement tools among the setups covered here.
The ad promises the user something specific and free: a crash game demo, a slot simulator, or, for example, a trading calculator. After clicking, the user launches the bot and tries the product firsthand. This is the engagement moment that determines whether they continue down the funnel.
Only after the user has tested the demo and become engaged does the funnel introduce an upgrade: playing for real money or getting access to paid signals. Once the user agrees, they are redirected to a browser or to the operator's or broker's registration page, while the click ID is automatically passed along.
The strength of this setup is that the product effectively sells itself before the actual sales pitch begins. The user has already experienced it, making the decision to accept the offer easier. If tracking is configured correctly, attribution remains intact when the user moves to the browser, allowing you to see the full path from click to deposit.
Selling Through DMs: A Setup for 18+ Content and Dating
For offers where the decision is emotional and made quickly — adult content platforms, dating, and high-ticket education — a channel-based funnel can be too long. In these cases, it is more effective to move straight into a one-to-one conversation.
The setup is simple: an ad such as “Message Katya” uses a deep link that takes the user directly to a Telegram profile, with a pre-filled message already waiting in the input field. All the user has to do is hit “Send.”
From that point, an operator, live chatter, or AI assistant joins the conversation, responds instantly, and builds trust through the exchange. The sale happens in the same chat: paid content on a pay-per-view model or a subscription link is sent directly to the user.
This funnel has no intermediate landing page to cool down the initial impulse. The conversation starts precisely when interest is at its peak. And because each conversation can be tied back to a specific creative, it is easy to identify which ads bring in users with the highest LTV.
Warming Up Through an Open Channel: A Setup for Forex, Crypto, and Betting
This setup is closest to the influencer model: provide free value first, then introduce the paid product. The user enters a public channel through a link that already contains a traffic source parameter.
From there, the channel operates like a regular content feed — free predictions, screenshots of successful trades, stories about big wins. This entire stream of content acts as the warm-up, gradually convincing subscribers that the system works.
Once enough trust has been built, subscribers are offered access to a private VIP group with more frequent and more accurate signals. There is only one way to get in: register with a specific broker or casino through an affiliate link and make a first deposit.
The user then sends a screenshot or deposit ID to an admin or bot as proof. Once the deposit is verified, access to the private group is granted.
This is where first-touch automation works particularly well: a welcome bot sends a message immediately after the user subscribes to the channel. Further communication through the bot allows you to re-engage users with targeted push notifications based on the funnel sequence.
Scheduled Bot Nurturing: A Setup for Online Education and Information Products
Selling a course or educational program almost always requires the lead to warm up first — they need to understand the value before they are ready to pay. A bot with a pre-built message sequence can handle this more effectively than an email campaign because Telegram messages generally achieve much higher open rates.
The user launches the bot to receive a promised free case study and gets the video immediately. Over the next two or three days, the bot automatically sends a series of follow-up messages according to a schedule: reminders about the results shown in the case study, time-limited offers, and other calls to action. Every link in the sequence leads to the payment page.
It is also worth tracking exactly where users drop off. If someone watched the key video but did not buy, it can make sense to send a personalized push notification with a discount roughly 12 hours later — while the interest is still relatively fresh.
Without Server-Side Tracking, None of These Funnels Will Pay Off
All four funnel types share the same vulnerability: once a user moves from an ad to Telegram, the advertising platform’s standard analytics can no longer track what happens next. It cannot tell whether the user subscribed to a channel, launched a bot, or started a conversation in a private chat. Without an additional tracking system, this part of the user journey remains outside standard attribution.
Server-side tracking closes this gap. It works in three basic steps: first, it assigns a unique identifier to the user before they open Telegram; then it sends a conversion event back to the ad platform when the user subscribes to a channel or messages a bot; finally, it passes the same identifier further down the funnel — to the casino operator, broker, or payment provider — so information about the actual deposit can be returned to the campaign statistics.
The difference is significant in practice. Without this setup, optimization is essentially done blind, based on click volume. With it, campaigns can be optimized against the actual revenue generated by each traffic source.
The underlying tracking logic — a unique click ID, a conversion event, and a postback containing deposit data — is not specific to Telegram. It is standard affiliate marketing infrastructure, regardless of whether you send traffic to a website, app, or messenger. How to Choose the Right Setup for Your Product
If your offers rely on regular content and gradual trust-building — forex, crypto, and betting signals — it makes more sense to build the funnel around an open channel followed by a move into a private VIP group. The key performance metric should be the percentage of subscribers who make it to their first deposit.
If the product is sold through personal contact and emotional engagement — 18+ content or dating — the funnel should be shortened to DMs, with the primary focus on the LTV of each conversation.
For iGaming and utility offers where the decision is driven by a trial experience, a Mini App demo followed by a redirect to the operator's registration page is usually the better fit. The key metric here is the percentage of registered users who go on to make a deposit.
Where the product needs to demonstrate its value before asking for payment — courses, online education, and information products — a drip sequence of messages in a bot is more effective. In this case, track the percentage of users who watch the warm-up content.
Whatever setup you choose, the funnel should reflect your users' actual behavior rather than force them into someone else's journey. And in every case, never run traffic blind: keep the entire data chain under control, from the ad click to the final payout.
