Queensland postpones The Star Gold Coast casino licence suspension to March 31, 2027

The Queensland government on September 24 extended the postponement of the suspension of The Star Gold Coast casino's licence until March 31, 2027, according to an official statement. The licence was due to be suspended for 90 days starting September 30, 2026.

The decision follows a new report from special administrator Nicholas Weeks. In his August report, he noted significant progress by The Star on key reforms, but said a number of priority measures were still under way. Among the changes since the previous report, he pointed to organisational and financial reforms.

Weeks's appointment has also been extended to the same date, March 31, 2027. According to the government, six months are needed for The Star to complete the remaining items in its remediation plan, and for the administrator to keep independently monitoring the reforms and their effectiveness. These observations will form the basis of future decisions on the casino's operations.

Queensland Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said the requirements for The Star have not changed. According to her, the government will "take immediate action" if the operator fails to meet its obligations.

This is not the first postponement. The suspension has already been moved several times, including from March 2025 to September 2026. The Weeks report and the supplementary assessment have been published on the Queensland Department of Justice website.

The statement does not name a date for the next decision. There is one reference point: March 31, 2027.
