The financial exchange Kalshi, regulated by the CFTC, announced on October 27 in a press release that every trader account aged 18–20 will be assigned a default monthly deposit limit of $2500.
Accounts in this group will automatically move into special accounts with extra protections and responsible trading education. The second feature targets new traders: if a balance exceeds $1000 and more than 25% of it goes into a single trade, the platform shows a warning urging them to diversify their positions. According to the company, both features will roll out in the coming days.
All Kalshi traders can already use trading breaks, self-set limits and self-exclusion. The default limit adds a ceiling specifically for the younger group. At $2500 a month, one account can deposit up to $30,000 a year.
Users aged 18–20 already have tools to limit time and spending after their first trade, plus confidential mental health support through Birches Health. The Inner Circle feature sends parents real-time alerts about how often and how much their child trades.
The minimum age is not changing: Kalshi rejects anyone under 18 through KYC verification. The home page now features an ID Check tool that lets adults confirm nobody is using their identity. The company states the reason directly: minors may try to trade under a family member's details.
Together with Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely, Kalshi is releasing guides for parents on prediction markets. Luana Lopez Lara, Senior Vice President of Operations and co-founder of the company, said young people often come to markets for the first time and need more education and protective measures.
