Google expands ads in AI Mode to ten countries and launches multiturn ads in the US

Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to ten more countries. In an October 28, 2026 post on the Google Ads blog, Shashi Thakur, Vice President and General Manager of Google Search Ads, announced the move. The countries are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.

Google names Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom as the next wave, due in the fourth quarter of 2026. The announcement gives only the quarter, not an exact date.

In the US, Google is launching multiturn ads. They appear not only on the first query but also on follow-up questions within a conversation with AI Mode. These ads are labeled "Sponsored."

According to Google, queries in AI Mode are on average three times longer than regular search queries. The same blog post says the CTR of sponsored and organic product listings in AI Mode is already comparable; the figure is based on Google's internal US data.

Advertisers don't need a separate campaign for AI Mode. Search, Shopping, Performance Max and AI Max campaigns, as well as broad match, already serve ads both for contextual and direct query matching. AI Mode cannot be excluded from ads separately from Search: Google Ads Help states directly that advertisers cannot manage ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode separately. Bidding is the same as for regular search ads: CPC or conversion-based payment.

Reporting is still incomplete. Google Ads does not provide segmented statistics for ads shown within AI Overviews, and the company has promised to share updates when something new becomes available.

Google announced testing of ads in AI Mode in the US in May 2025. At that time, Performance Max, Shopping and Search campaigns with broad match were eligible to take part. The new expansion follows the same model: it runs through campaigns that are already active.
