CAIXA cuts prize shares for four- and five-number wins in Mega-Sena from draw 3073

Brazilian state operator CAIXA Loterias switched to a new Mega-Sena prize distribution scheme starting with draw No. 3073, held on October 22. Winners of five numbers (Quina) and four numbers (Quadra) now share 10% of the prize pool each, down from 13% and 15%.

The remaining shares are split as follows: 40% goes to players who match all six numbers, 25% rolls over into the top prize in draws whose numbers end in 0 or 5, and 15% goes into a reserve for the last special draw of the year. The previous scheme put less into the rollover for draws ending in 0 and 5, and the special-draw reserve was 10%. That means the eight percentage points removed from Quina and Quadra went into two rollover reserves. The notice does not say what share of sales revenue goes into the prize pool.

Special draws are unaffected. In Mega da Virada, six matches still get 90% of the pool, while five and four numbers get 5% each.

The payout to an individual winner in the Quina and Quadra categories depends on how many winning tickets there are, so the overall share of the pool does not show the amount per ticket. The notice does not say how much the jackpots could grow.

For operators and partners working with Brazilian lottery traffic, this changes the product pitch: the focus moves from frequent small wins to large rollover prizes. Watch jackpot sizes in the upcoming draws ending in 0 and 5, and the December Mega da Virada.
