TFF bars 147 club officials for 45 days over betting; 301 not sanctioned

The Professional Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) on October 20 reviewed the cases of 448 officials from Süper Lig and TFF 1. Lig clubs that were referred to it over betting. 147 people were suspended for 45 days, and no violation was established in 301 cases.

Among those sanctioned was Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan. The decision says the penalty was imposed for 'actions related to betting' (bahis eylemi). The basis is article 57/2 of the disciplinary regulations (FDT), applied with article 13. The term is the same for everyone: 45 days.

The committee examined officials who had held administrative posts at clubs in the two top leagues within the past five years. For these bets, it assessed whether each individual had committed a violation. Therefore, the absence of a sanction only means that a violation was not proven, not that the person never placed bets.

The materials we were able to verify contain no names of bookmakers, no bet amounts, and no information on whether the officials contested the decisions. There is also no information on possible appeals or further TFF steps. Nor is there data on whether the cases involve players or referees.

For the market, this is so far a story about Turkish football rather than about operators: the decision does not directly apply to licensees and affiliates. What happens with the remaining identified cases and whether the decisions will be appealed should be followed in future TFF statements.
