Spain launches single per-player deposit limit across all online operators

Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, through the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), has launched a system of joint deposit limits. As the DGOJ announcement of October 21 explains, a player's deposits are now added up across all operators where they hold an account. The system is available to users but in test mode, and it becomes mandatory on March 26, 2027.

By default, the combined limit is 700 euros per day, 1,750 euros per week and 3,300 euros over four weeks. A player can change the limit or remove it entirely, but only through a separate procedure that comes with a strengthened risk warning. Changes take effect within three working days, and the limit can be raised only once every three months.

Previously, each operator set its own limit. By spreading deposits across several platforms, a player could put in more in total than the original limits intended. The DGOJ believes this affects roughly a third of active online players in Spain.

The DGOJ itself will oversee the system. It has built a tool that checks limit data in real time. Operators will not have to share information with each other. The new system supplements existing operator-level limits and does not replace them.

A separate service for players has been launched at the same time. According to the DGOJ, it lets users manage the combined limit, track their gambling activity and monitor their spending.

The message does not specify technical requirements for operators or penalties for non-compliance. Operators and affiliates in the Spanish market should expect details on integration from the DGOJ before March 26, 2027, and take into account that the deposit funnel for multi-account players may narrow.
