Meta delays new advertiser terms to November 20

Meta has moved the effective date of updated Commercial Terms and Self-Serve Ad Terms from October 30 to November 20, 2026. All Facebook and Instagram advertisers fall under the new version, and continued use of ad tools after that date counts as acceptance.

The company said the delay was needed because partners need more time to understand what is changing. The move followed criticism from publishers: publishers and advertisers complained to antitrust regulators in the EU and the UK, saying the new agreement gives the company an almost unlimited right to use their content for AI services.

For media buyers, another section matters more. The new section on AI features acknowledges that these tools can make mistakes and places responsibility for their consequences on the advertiser. The current version already makes advertisers responsible for orders, creatives, targeting and placements, so what is new is extending that responsibility to AI tools. The $100 liability cap and the indemnification obligation existed before.

The practical takeaway: if an automated Meta feature edits a creative and the ad gets rejected or the edit spoils the offer, the risk stays with the buyer. The document also gives Meta the right to scan sites linked to business accounts, which affects anyone who drives traffic to their own pages through Meta.

If Meta does not shift the date again, the same terms will apply on November 20, unless regulators or the company itself change course.
