Marriott International has opened City Centro by Marriott Ponce Plaza & Casino in the historic center of Ponce. It is the first City Centro by Marriott property in Puerto Rico.
The hotel occupies Casa Sauri, a building completed in 1882 that is considered an architectural landmark of the region. The building was converted into a hotel, and part of its original design elements were preserved.
The hotel offers guest rooms and suites, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a casino, meeting spaces and a restaurant.
Ricardo Echeverri, Marriott International's vice president for owner and franchise services in the Caribbean and Latin America, said the opening fits the company's expansion plans in the region's key markets. The hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.
The City Centro concept is built on restoring historic buildings in city centers. Nearby are Ponce's squares, museums, galleries and restaurants.
