Malaysia: Facebook received 78% of gambling content removal requests

Facebook was the main platform targeted by Malaysia’s MCMC regulator over illegal gambling content. Between January 1 and August 17, 2026, the platform accounted for 78% of all gambling-related removal requests.

YouTube accounted for 18% and TikTok for another 4%.

During the period, MCMC sent platforms 470,593 requests to remove illegal content. Online gambling accounted for 64% of all requests, while scam content made up another 27%. Together, gambling and scams represented 91% of the regulator’s requests.

Platforms complied with 93% of the requests, resulting in the removal of 436,661 pieces of content.

As of August 17, around 34,000 MCMC requests remained unresolved.
